The Pavia-based company applies its patented washing and drying technologies to feedstock for improved recycling
In plastics recycling, the real challenge is not just recovering what is already recyclable, but making it possible to value what was previously not. This is the goal of Recy Technologies, an Italian company specializing in the design and manufacture of complete lines for the washing, separation and preparation of post-consumer and post-industrial plastics.
The company’s approach is clear: start with waste, whatever it may be, and transform it into a resource. “There are no impossible materials, only processes yet to be developed.” It is precisely this vision that has led Recy to distinguish itself in the management of rigid and highly contaminated plastics, such as flexible films, textiles, carpets, fishing nets and mixed fractions.

From sorting to feedstock: preparing material for advanced recycling
While the goal of mechanical recycling is to preserve the polymer’s structure, in chemical recycling the focus shifts to the quality of the input material. Plastic thus becomes “feedstock”: a raw material that must be homogeneous, clean and have specific dimensional characteristics.
This is where mechanical preparation becomes strategic. The lines developed by Recy Technologies integrate all the necessary stages to transform mixed plastic waste into a material suitable for chemical processes: sorting, size reduction, wet and dry washing, separation and drying.

The value of hot washing
Among the key technologies developed by Recy, the hot washing system also stands out in the preparation for chemical recycling. Thanks to a washing and heat-generation process based on friction, the machine reaches high temperatures – up to 85°C – without the use of external heat sources.
The result is the removal of over 95% of soil, inks, oils, adhesives, aluminum, organic residues and odors, with energy consumption reduced by 40% compared to traditional systems, and without the use of aggressive chemical additives. The technology is applicable to flexible and rigid plastics, and textile.
Beyond traditional recycling
Recy Technologies is a partner that can help companies manage complex waste streams, transforming them into resources compatible with the most advanced processes. The configuration of the processing lines varies depending on the type of plastic, the degree of contamination and the specific downstream requirements.
The challenge becomes an opportunity: what was waste yesterday can become a new secondary raw material today. The starting point is to rethink the very concept of recovery to overcome the limitations of traditional recycling.
